A few days ago, we mentioned that PBS would be a bit quiet for the next couple weeks until autumn premieres started dropping - but then there was a fantastic announcement. If you’re a PBS Passport or PBS Masterpiece subscriber, you’ll be able to watch season 5 of Professor T beginning this Sunday (the 9th).
Also, BritBox emailed us yesterday to let us know they’ve updated their previously released August schedule. Here’s what changes:
August 10: 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown premieres as originally stated
August 31: I Literally Just Told You (pushed back slightly)
Pointless Celebrities will no longer be premiering in August

Watching: P’tang Yang Klipperbang - If you’re a fan of Alison Steadman (Pride & Prejudice, Gavin & Stacey, Here We Go), definitely check this one out. I spotted it on a deep wander through Amazon Prime’s catalog, and it’s a coming of age TV movie set around a suburban London school during the late 1940s.
Reading: A Very Dangerous Pursuit by Ben Miller - Yes, the same Ben Miller from Professor T and Death in Paradise. You might be familiar with his books for children (which are delightful), but this one is for the adults, and it’s a bit different. Beginning just before WWI, it follows adventurer Richard Hannay as a meeting with an old friend in Constantinople gets him mixed up in a chase around the globe - and if you’re looking for something that isn’t the usual celebrity cozy mystery, definitely give the sample a try and see if it’s to your liking (Amazon lets you read the first ~10% or so for free).

THIS WEEK IN BRITISH TV
On BritBox, new episodes of Escape to the Country continue at a rate of four new episodes every Friday through September 25th. On the 1st, season 46 of Antiques Roadshow premiered (binge premiere), and on the 5th, season 2 of The Hardacres premiered (BritBox Premier members can watch all episodes early). On the 10th, they’ll add a new season of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (14).
On Acorn TV, August 10th brings us new episodes of Summertide, The Ridge, and season 4 of The Chelsea Detective. Also on the 10th, they’ll be adding the third season of True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here.
This Sunday (the 9th), PBS Passport and PBS Masterpiece subscribers will be able to watch season 5 of Professor T.
On Netflix, August 7th brings a new animated comedy from Ricky Gervais, Alley Cats.
On BBC Select (+ BritBox Premier), the 6th (today) brings season 5 of Ancient Treasures with Bettany Hughes, as well as the first season of Mayhem! The Scandalous Lives of the Georgian Kings.
