What we’re…
Watching: Thriller - This one’s old, but it’s an autumn/winter favorite and I kind of like that it’s a bit cheesy at times. It’s an anthology, with each episode offering up a self-contained creepy or suspenseful tale - often with an American guest actor. We often look up the actors on IMDb to see what they’ve been up to in the 50 or so years since - and if you pay close attention, you’ll see early performances from actors like Michael Kitchen (Foyle’s War), Hayley Mills (The Parent Trap), Jenny Agutter (Call the Midwife), Francesca Annis (Flesh & Blood), and Dame Helen Mirren (does she really need a reference?). If you don’t have Prime, it’s also on Tubi, Pluto, Plex, and Fawesome free with ads.
Reading: Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel by Lucy Foley - This is the first new Miss Marple book in more than 50 years, officially authorized by the Christie estate - but I went back and forth on whether I would read it. I’ve yet to read one of these estate-authorized novels that was anything close to the original, and a few have just been depressing. So far, this one isn’t bad, but it’s not at all like a real Miss Marple book. If you can manage to pretend it has nothing to do with Agatha Christie, you’ll probably enjoy it.
