Watching: Stucky - This one’s Italian with English subtitles, but Stucky is a fun detective - he has elements of Vera, Cracker, Crabbe on Pie in the Sky…a dash of Hagrid from Harry Potter, maybe. He’s sharp but rumpled, a bit older, and very good at what he does. Definitely check it out if you can deal with subtitles.
Reading: The Most Mysterious Bookshop in Paris by Mark Pryor - This one’s by a British-American author, and it follows a man who’s newly retired and hoping to own a bookshop - until he gets mixed up in a blackmail scheme involving a chocolatier. Again, minor echoes of Pie in the Sky here, but for different reasons, and with a very different setting (Paris).

On BritBox, new episodes of Escape to the Country continue at a rate of four new episodes every Friday through September 25th. On the 1st, season 46 of Antiques Roadshow premiered (binge premiere), and on the 5th, season 2 of The Hardacres premieres (BritBox Premier members can watch it now). On the 10th, look for several new seasons of British game shows: I Literally Just Told You (4), 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (14), and Pointless Celebrities (8).
On Acorn TV, August 10th brings us new episodes of Summertide, The Ridge, and season 4 of The Chelsea Detective (which premiered today). Also on the 10th, they’ll be adding the third season of True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here.
On PBS Masterpiece, Sunday marked the final episode of Grantchester - and they’ll have a brief quiet period before the autumn premieres pick up in a few weeks.
On Netflix, August 7th brings a new animated comedy from Ricky Gervais, Alley Cats.
On BBC Select (+ BritBox Premier), they added Europe on the Edge with Katya Adler on August 2nd.
