I’m also pleased to share that BritBox has announced a North American premiere date for season 2 of Ludwig. The new season will begin airing on October 13th, and there will be six hour-long episodes.

Watching: The Man in the Hat - Ciarán Hinds stars in this unusual film about a man exploring France with a framed photo of an unknown woman… while being pursued by an assortment of interesting characters. It’s not an entirely wordless film, but there isn’t a great deal of dialogue, and it relies heavily on visual appeal (of which there is much).
Reading: The Tailor by Tim Sullivan - This is the latest entry in the DS George Cross series, and it involves the train-based murder of a Bristol tailor. Of the detective, Stephen Fry has said, “I am insanely in love with George Cross” - and while I don’t always agree with everything he says, I do agree when it comes to this series. If you’re new to it, I recommend starting with The Dentist (first in series), as there’s an ongoing storyline that’s best enjoyed from the beginning.

THIS WEEK IN BRITISH TV
On BritBox, new episodes of Escape to the Country continue at a rate of four new episodes every Friday through September 25th. On the 19th, they added the 2018 adaptation of Vanity Fair, and on the 25th, they’ll be adding season 3 of Good Ship Murder. On the 31st, look for season 4 of I Literally Just Told You.
On Acorn TV, August 24th brings us new episodes of Summertide (FINALE), The Ridge, and season 4 of The Chelsea Detective (FINALE). They added the 2016 film The Watchman on the 17th, and on the 24th, they’ll be adding the first episode of the New Zealand series Blue Murder Motel. That one follows a couple of retired Sydney detectives hoping for a quiet life running a motel on the New Zealand coast. The 31st will bring the 2025 series The Assassin, with Keeley Hawes playing a retired contract killer living on a Greek island.
PBS Passport and PBS Masterpiece subscribers gained access to season 5 of Professor T on Sunday the 9th. Bergerac was also made available early (the broadcast premiere isn’t until October 15th, but Passport/PBS Masterpiece on Amazon members can watch it now).
On Peacock, season 2 of The Undeclared War will premiere on August 27th.
On BBC Select (+ BritBox Premier), the 27th brings season 1 of Will Robots Take My Job?, a series about how tech giants hope to replace millions of us with robots and AI. They’ll also be adding Expedition Volcano and season 7 of Where the Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle that day.
