First off, a bit of British TV news…
UK cast and crew databases (for the TV production industry) now show a listing for season 2 of A Woman of Substance - the Brenda Blethyn-led series due to premiere on BritBox on June 24th. There’s no official confirmation yet, but it’s a very promising sign of more to come.
Acorn TV has renewed their recent American series You’re Killing Me for a second season. It goes into production later this year, and there will be 6 episodes.
What we’re…
Watching: Hudson & Rex, Season 8 - This one’s not British, but it IS a light Canadian mystery, and our 22-year-old parrot can’t seem to get enough of it (which means I’m watching it with her). Based on the Austrian-Italian series Kommissar Rex, it follows a Newfoundland police officer who works alongside a very talented German Shepherd - and new episodes of season 8 arrive weekly on Thursday through September 10th.
Reading: Let’s Play by Alex Scarrow - If you’re not familiar with Scarrow’s DCI Boyd series, you’ll likely want to start back at book 1 (Silent Tide) - but as I’m all caught up, I’m working on the newest in series (#14), released about a week ago. Boyd begins the series having recently relocated from London to Hastings, and on the personal front, the books include storylines related to his teenage daughter and his attempts to slowly get back into the dating world after tragic loss. On the cozy-to-gritty scale (1 being fluffy and 10 being horrifying), I’d put it around 6-8, depending on the book. The characters are well-drawn, and it manages to be serious and well-plotted without getting too gruesome.
