A bit of news to start things off…
The TV adaptation of Chris Chibnall’s novel, Death at the White Hart, is set to begin filming in March 2027 in Dorset.
The BBC has released a first look for the upcoming series The Detection Club, which follows fictionalised versions of three popular Golden Age mystery novelists - Agatha Christie, GK Chesterton, and Dorothy L. Sayers - who end up solving crimes alongside a young police detective. You can read more HERE.
The new BBC comedy Ann Droid hasn’t premiered yet in the US, but it’s already been renewed for a second season after becoming the BBC’s second biggest scripted launch of the year. The series stars Diane Morgan (Cunk on Life) as a second-hand eldercare robot charged with helping Sue (played by Sue Johnston).
Code of Silence has been renewed for season 2, and filming is now underway. No word yet on a premiere date.

Watching: Night Coppers - I’m not usually one for nonfiction police shows, but this one is a bit different. It follows a group of officers who work the late night scene in Brighton - a small coastal city in southern England that’s known for being lively. The officers have great senses of humor, and there are some genuinely funny moments. If you liked Cuffs, this is basically the docu-series version.
Reading: The Shadow Friends by Tess Gerritsen - This one isn’t British, but the series shares a bit of DNA with the Thursday Murder Club series (competent retirees solving crimes), and the books do involve a bit of globetrotting at times. It follows a group of retired spies who’ve retired to coastal Maine - but of course, their quiet retirement is frequently disrupted by murders. In this one, a famous disease expert/Russian defector dies in suspicious circumstances during a conference in Maine. When it’s soon followed by another murder, one of the gang sees connections to a mission from decades earlier.

THIS WEEK IN BRITISH TV
On BritBox, new episodes of Escape to the Country continue at a rate of four new episodes every Friday through September 25th. On the 25th, they added season 3 of Good Ship Murder - and on the 31st, look for season 4 of I Literally Just Told You. On the 3rd, they’ll add season 1 of Showtrial, a legal drama that follows high-profile cases from arrest to trial.
On Acorn TV, August 24th brought the finales of Summertide and season 4 of The Chelsea Detective - and on the 31st, The Ridge will wrap up. A new episode of the New Zealand series Blue Murder Motel will also be added that day, along with the premiere of The Assassin, with Keeley Hawes playing a retired contract killer living on a Greek island.
PBS Passport and PBS Masterpiece subscribers gained early access to season 5 of Professor T and Bergerac. On Sunday, September 6th, Marble Hall Murders (the follow-up to Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders) and season 3 of Marlow Murder Club will premiere.
On Peacock, season 2 of The Undeclared War premiered today (the 27th).
On BBC Select (+ BritBox Premier), the 27th brings Will Robots Take My Job?, a series about how tech giants hope to replace millions of us with robots and AI. They also added Expedition Volcano and season 7 of Where the Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle. On September 1st, look for Inside the Mind of Agatha Christie and Agatha Christie’s England, followed by season 49 of Antiques Roadshow on the 3rd.
